Home Science will be offered as a double subject in the External Degree Programme. The main purpose of the course is to provide
students with knowledge and skills for personal development, family living and professional specialization. On completion of the course most of the students will be posted to Secondary schools and teacher training colleges as teachers, others may find employment opportunities as extension workers in Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Social Services, private industries and other related areas. The course will consist of three core areas: - Food and Nutrition including Food Science experiment a full meal management and community nutrition
- Home Management including child care, household equipment, housing and furnishings and consumer economics
- Clothing and Textiles to include flat pattern designing, clothing construction and costume and apparel design.
Distribution of courses:
During the first to fourth part each student will take 6 units. Elective courses shall be offered in the 6th part.
To qualify for a degree in Home Science a candidate must have taken 32 units in Home Science and Education courses.

Entrance qualifications: In addition to satisfying the minimum
entrance requirement of external degree programme:
1. Candidates must have taken Home Science at KACE and passed with a minimum of Principle E
2. Candidates must also have passed the following subjects with a minimum of credit:
a. Biology of Biological Sciences
b. Chemistry )
c. Physics ) or Physical Sciences.
In special cases, candidates who are holders of distinction points from Diploma colleges or its equivalent from a recognized college may be admitted or as the admission board may decide from time to time.
